Multi-family housing / Urban gardening

multi-family housing, academic project
mentorship: Ivan Rašković
The project is located on and old industrial site in Belgrade, Serbia. This place once had a distinct identity, historical value and represented an important heritage of the city but was forgotten in the globalization and urbanization process. The project includes regeneration of the physical site and the land, as well as the conversion of the program. The idea is to lift housing from the ground and create free space below. One part of the factory is preserved and given a cultural program related to the historic importance of the site, around which urban gardens arise and create an oasis for the inhabitants and visitors. This way the brunt from heavy industries shifts to small scale agriculture, creating a sustainable community. Nature is not only present on the ground, in a parterre, but it is also an integral part of the lives of people at this location. Housing is organized in four silos like buildings which are perforated and greened, creating a private oasis inside a communal garden.
